PANERAI : new Luminor 8 Days Power Reserve models

The year’s Panerai releases continue with the launch of three new variations on the brand’s Luminor 8 Days; two with newly designed power-reserve-indicators, and the final one the first in the series with a ‘lefty’ (aka ‘destro’) case designed for left-handed wearers.

The new Luminor 8 Days Power Reserve Acciaio PAM795 comes in a 44mm stainless steel case and features the much loved ‘sandwich’ type dial, with faux age-coloured and Super-LumiNova filled hands and numerals. The small seconds is at the familiar 9 o’clock position but the power reserve is now at 5 o’clock, with the watch’s power reserve on a 0 to 8 scale, each number representing one of the eight days of the name. The movement providing these eight days of power reserve is the manual-wind Calibre P.5002.

It comes on a vintage-styled brown leather strap with stitching that mirrors the colour of the hands and has an RRP of EUR 6,800.

Next up is the new Luminor 8 Days Power Reserve Titanio (PAM797). This model is basically the same as the PAM795, with the same dimensions and movement, but the case is Grade 5 titanium instead of stainless steel, with a combination of brushed and polished finishing. Like the stainless steel variant, water resistance is 300m. The colour scheme is all about shades of brown, with beige Super-LumiNova numerals, hands, and indices. Its RRP is EUR 7,200.

The final member of the new triumverate, and my pick if the three, is the Luminor Left-Handed 8 Days Acciaio (PAM796), also in steel and with a black sandwich dial, but whose screw-down winding crown is destro style. Inside, the movement is the manual-wind Calibre P.5001, which differs from the Calibre P.5002 in that it incorporates the eight-day power reserve indicator on the movement side at the back, rather than on the dial. It also means that the case back for this model is open rather than closed, as is the case for the previous two models. The Luminor Left-Handed 8 Days Acciaio has an RRP of EUR 6,700.

  1. The PAM 796 is lovely. One of the better permutations of Luminors over the years. If only they had a right hand version. That and the 42mm Submersible would be my pick of the new OP models.
