As a continuation of the nod-to-Geneva Reverso theme this post is about a new but familiar new model launched this week in the same city.
One of the hits of last year, and whose popularity went beyond its attention-grabbing hue being a standout at at the SIHH 2019, was the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Small Seconds with a ‘red wine’ (Bordeaux) dial and matching Casa Fagliano strap. For those with slightly longer memories, there was another similarly successful red Reverso back in 2012 in the form of the boutique-only limited edition Grande Reverso 1931 Rouge.
Well whether it was already in the planning (which is probable, given the lead time for watch development) or a response to demand, Jaeger-LeCoultre have just announced one for women called the Reverso One Red Wine, and those women whose wrists were too slender for the 2019 model now have a ‘wine Reverso’ suitable for their wrist.
The dial features a sunray guilloché decoration which is coated with several layers of lacquer. The Art Deco origins of the Reverso are given an added lift with the addition of double lines at each of the corners. The use of very rounded Arabic numerals of varied sizes is intended to give the impression of the numbers having been sketched by hand.
Measuring 40mm x 20mm x 7.9mm in a polished stainless steel case it is, like the 2019 model, a Reverso with only the one dial, meaning the possibility of personalised engraving on the back side should you so choose.
Those who prefer their Reversos sans diamonds may have to reassess how (relatively important) that is if they want this dial colour, as the new Reverso One Red Wine has 27 of them on the case. Also, as with some other members of the Reverso One collection, the movement is quartz – the Calibre 657. If you like your Reverso One with a mechanical movement, then the Duetto is the place to look.
Naturally, as was the case with the men’s red wine Reverso, this new women’s Reverso One has a matching alligator strap of the same colour.
The RRP is AUD 9,050.
