Prominent Qatari art collector Sheikh Saud bin Mohammed Al-Thani of Qatar died suddenly at his home in London on November 9, 2014 from what is reported to be natural causes.
Revealed in 2012 to be the owner of the Graves Supercomplication, the timepiece is due to be auctioned by Sotheby’s as Lot 345 in Sale GE1404 ‘Important Watches’ on 11November 2014 (10:00am) in Geneva.
Sold on 2 December 1999 for $11 million ($11,002,500 to be precise), Graves originally paid 60,000 Swiss Francs for it. With 15 million CHF (15.5 million USD) being suggested as an estimate for the upcoming auction, you can read more about the watch at the Lot link above, and more about the circumstances leading to this sale, here.
