With a new lunar year coming soon, Officine Panerai have released the latest in their Chinese zodiac/ lunar year themed limited editions, this time in honour of the year of the horse. The PAM 847 is limited to one hundred pieces, and is number six in the series (there are twelve zodiac beasts) which started in 2009 and has so far covered the years of the Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon and Snake.
The PAM847 is in a 44mm brushed stainless steel Luminor case, and for this latest addition to the zodiac family, a horse is hand-engraved on the hinged cover – the equine grooves are inlaid with gold threads which are hammered, layer by layer, until it is filled. In addition, there is a mirror on the interior flipside of the cover. The caseback is screwdown brushed steel.
The dial is grey, with steel hour markers and Arabic numerals, and the date window a contrasting black background with a 1.5mm thick magnifier lens. The PAM 847 is water-resistant to a depth of 50 metres and comes with a brown leather strap, a second spare strap and a screwdriver for changing straps, a de rigueur part of being a Panerai owner.
As with its predecessors, it will be available exclusively in Panerai boutiques.
