HANDS-ON: TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition

In early 2021 TAG Heuer introduced the Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition to mark the beginning of their new partnership. Now, there is a second addition to this collaboration – the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Limited Edition.

Based on the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph with its in house Calibre Heuer 02. Functionally, along with the time, the chronograph has 30 minute, 12 hour, and 1/4 second counters.

The 44mm case is black DLC steel, with a fixed ceramic bezel and black PVD-coated steel case back with commemorative engraving. The crown is black DLC with a touch of yellow, and it has water resistance of 100m. It is a light, and shiny.

Design wise, it is all about black and yellow. The yellow represents the Porsche racing yellow Pantone colour. The shiny black dial’s texture is inspired by the metallic bodywork of cars, complete with slight glitter. The yellow theme even extends to the Super-LumiNova®, which lights up in yellow.

The three counters have a mix of finishing – the two at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock have a black asphalt-like texture effect to mimic roads, with polished hands with white tips and yellow lume. The counter at 6 o’clock is matte black.

The decision to go for indirect Porsche partnership identification on the dial side works in its favour from a longeivity-of-wear point of view.

Through the sapphire case back can be seen the automatic Calibre Heuer 02 column wheel chronograph movement, which beats at 2,800 VPH and has a power reserve of 80 hours. The oscillating mass has “Porsche” and “TAG Heuer” in the same yellow as the front.

The leather strap is made to look like fabric and has double yellow stitching and lining that is a nod to the upholstery in Porsches, and it comes on a black DLC steel folding clasp.

In a limited edition of 1,500 pieces, the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche comes in a custom-made box and has an Australian RRP of $10,250.
