Laurent Ferrier has revisited his École Annual Calendar, this time in navy blue and orange. This new variant is numbered, engraved as “Série Atelier II”, and is in a limited edition of ten pieces. In this latest iteration, the 40mm case is in stainless steel with a water resistance of 30m and sapphire crystal on both sides.
For those unfamiliar with this model, it is an annual calendar that recognises months with 30 or 31 days and which requires a single adjustment each year on 1 March. There is a corrector at 10 o’clock to advance the day, whilst the date is set via the crown. The month indication is adjusted by advancing the date through an entire cycle of 30 or 31 days.
If we look at the dial, along with the hours and minutes there is a small seconds at 6 o’clock, a white centre hand for the date indication, and semi-instantaneous counters for the day and months. The power reserve is on the back (movement) side.
Powering it is the same movement as with the earlier models, the manually-wound in-house Calibre LF126.01 that beats at 21,600 VPH and has a power reserve of 80 hours. At its launch, this movement was Laurent Ferrier’s fifth in-house movement. It features the customary high levels of Ferrier finishing, with Côtes de Genève finishing and ruthenium treatment on bridges, and circular graining on the main plate. There is also, of course, hand-beveling and chamfering.
What is different about this new model is, of course, the colour scheme. This time, it is a galvanic blue dial which has two zones with different finishing, for contrast. It is vertically satin-brushed in the centre and the outer ring has circular satin-brushed finishing. There is a grey powder coated hour ring and the “31” is in light blue. The small seconds sub dial also has contrasting finishing.
The Ferrier Assegai hour and minute hands are 18kt white gold and in a vivid orange, this blue and orange combination being what lends this version a more casual feel. This extends to the strap. It comes on the choice of either a navy or orange Nubuck leather handmade strap with navy Alcantara lining, with a stainless steel pin buckle.
The École Annual Calendar Navy has a price of CHF 50,000 (minus taxes). For comparison, the 2018 models weret CHF 50,000 in stainless steel and CHF 55,00 for the yellow or rose gold cases.
