There have been two new Omegas that have stood out for me so far at Baselworld 2013, and the new Speedy Dark Side of the Moon is one of them.
This classic and Omega stalwart, whose iterations are seemingly infinite, has been thoroughly modernised in a 44mm black ceramic case with polished and brushed surfaces, including a polished ceramic bezel. The dial is also black ceramic, as is the buckle, which is on a black Cordura fabric strap. Inside is the automatic coaxial Cal. 9300 that can be seen via an open caseback.
The case is made from a single ceramic block, which is going to be self-limiting from a production point of view; I have read that Omega is predicted to produce a maximum of 3,000 pieces/ year of this new (regular production) model.
I find this new model really appealing, it’s a sleek and cool looking Speedmaster with a suitably catchy name that I can’t wait to see ‘in the metal’.
The price of the Dark Side of the Moon Speedmaster will be CHF 10,000.

A decent effort, to be sure. Could it be more cohesive? At 40-42mm, with ever-so-fractionally larger subdials, maybe; but that really is splitting hairs on a worthy addition to the family.

I´m not a keen fan of black watches, but I have to say that Omega did good with this one. Especially since it´s a ceramic piece.
