Glashütte Original (GO) have decided to stick close to home and re-launch a newly re-designed Senator collection courtesy of the Panorama Date and Panorama Date Moonphase, both in 40mm sized cases and available in stainless steel or red gold and either with Louisiana alligator strap or stainless steel bracelet. The watches are a combination of polished and brushed surfaces.

SENATOR PANORAMA DATE

The new Senator Panorama Date uses the calibre 100-03 with a 55 hour power reserve. Externally, the bezel has been pared back and the dial lacquered silver-grain with black Roman numerals and a black railroad chapter ring. The eponymous date display at 4 o’clock is in black on a background that blends with the dial colour, and there are stonkingly beautiful new blued-steel “poire” shaped hands that are also used in the moon phase model. The previous versions used a button at 8 o’clock to reset the second hand to zero; the new version replaces the button with a corrector inset in the case.

The new Date Moonphase is powered by calibre 100-04 (also with a 55 hour power reserve) with a newly designed moon phase display between 10 and 11 o’clock: a polished tiny silver moon moves on a deep blue disk representing the sky.

For both watches, the red gold versions feature 18 gold-coated screws, skeletonised rotor with 21 carat oscillating weight and an open case back.

Some may deem them ‘safe’ releases but nonetheless, I like them, they are simple, elegant, and rather reminiscent of Peter Speake-Marin’s Piccadilly range, which is perhaps a large part of the reason for their appeal to me. My understanding is that the prices for these updated models will be the same as the current RRP for the existing collection.
