WATCHES & WONDERS 2024: Officine Panerai Submersible Luna Rossa

Panerai’s Watches & Wonders 2024 was all about its Submersible Luna Rossa series, with not just a prototype racing boat dominating the booth, but also dominating their releases. They have been the official sponsor of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team in the America’s Cup since 2019, and out of this has come a variety of branded collaborative pieces.

A number of ‘partner’ models were launched this month, of which we will showcase some here.

First up is the new Submersible GMT Luna Rossa Titanio PAM01507 (at the top), which adds a GMT to the standard Submersible Luna Rossa. It is in a 42mm brushed titanium case with 300m water resistance, has a blue blue dial, with that new GMT hand alongside the hours, minutes, date, and small seconds. The hour markers and dots are lumed.

Inside the PAM 1507 is the automatic P.900 which beats at 28,800 VPH and has a power reserve of three days. It comes on a rubber and blue textile strap with the Luna Rossa red stripe and a titanium buckle, with a second caoutchouc dark blue strap.

Next up is the limited edition (300 pieces) e-commerce edition Submersible Luna Rossa PAM01565, in a 42mm brushed stainless steel case with a matte black ceramic bezel (unidirectional – counter clockwise) and water resistant to 300m.

With a blue sun-brushed and black gradient finish dial with a date and small seconds, it is also powered by the P.900 and comes in a rubber textile strap with the Luna Rossa red stripe with a stainless steel buckle, with a second caoutchouc dark blue strap.

Finally, the most interesting from a ‘materials’ point of view – the Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech™ PAM01543 and Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech™ PAM01466, a 44mm sized duo with either a white or blue dial.

The PAM01466 & PAM01543 both use a material known as Ti-Ceramitech™. Taking seven years of R&D, the alloy involves a patent pending titanium ceramisation process using Electrolytic Plasma Oxidation to achieve a blue colour by transforming the titanium alloy into a dense ceramic layer. The resultant material is harder and (44%) lighter than stainless steel.

The bezel of this ceramicised machined titanium continues to the crown, edge of the indices on the bezel, the bezel itself, and the strap buckle. The case back is titanium. They have a water resistance of 500m.

The PAM01466 has a sun-brushed blue dial and the PAM01543, a matte white grained textured dial. Both have a red sub second dial hand which is a colour nod to Luna Rossa. Each new model comes with a rubber and textile strap with a red Luna Rossa stripe, and a second blue rubber strap.

The PAM01466 will be available everywhere, whereas the PAM01543 matte white dial will only be available from boutiques.
