WATCHES & WONDERS 2024: Chopard L.U.C XPS Forest Green

The Chopard L.U.C XPS Forest Green is the latest addition to this trend, marrying it with an old-school sector dial in a 40mm sized (7.20mm thick) case made from their proprietary Lucent Steel™️ alloy which is at least 80% recycled materials.

The ‘S’ in XPS refers to the seconds sub dial at 6 o’clock. L.U.C models are notable for their combination of technical skill, pared back design, and certification (in this instance, COSC-certified). Basically, it’s where the models that will appeal to certain types of old-school style collectors are likely to be.

We’ve covered it many times before, and in fact relatively recently, but sector dials refer to a particular design in which concentric circles are used to delineate the hour track from the minute track. The hour and minute markers have radial lines running between the inner and outer edges of the rings which cut the dial into sectors.

For this new deep green XPS, the sector dial is accompanied by Dauphine rhodium-plated hour and minute hands, white hours and minute markers, and an encircled small seconds with circular satin-brushed finishing and a silver-toned triangular seconds hand. The ‘forest green’ dial itself is created through PVD treatment and has sunburst finishing.

Through the open case back can be seen the ultra-thin automatic COSC-certified Calib8re LU.C. 96.12-L whch beats at 28,800 VPH and has a power reserve of 65 hours. It has a bi-directional 22k gold micro-rotor and twin stacked barrels. Finishing includes Côtes de Genève on th bridges, and perlage.

The case itself is mostly polished but also includes the use of vertical satin-brushed finishing.

Water resistant to 30m and coming on a brown calfskin strap, the RRP for the rather elegant new L.U.C. XPS Forest Green is CHF 11 200.
