NEW: GENUS GNS2

GENUS have announced the new GNS2, a new riff on their distinctive signature time display complication. This new model, building on the GNS1, about which you can read here, introduces a new semi-open dial and a simplified version of its ‘snaking’ genera that tell the time. The ‘GNS2 Launch Edition’ will be limited to 18 pieces.

The new GNS2 comes in a sand-blasted grade 5 titanium 43mm sized case with a thickness of 18.8mm and water resistance of 30m. The watch case features newly hollowed sides. Beneath the ‘glass box’ sapphire crystal is a grey hand-hammered dial, divided into two sections that mirror each other.

On this, the GENUS time display appears – there are two sets of three metallic blue arrow-shaped ‘genera’ that move through openings that surround matte black bases, on two skeletonised wheels. The hours are indicated by the lead of one of the sets of three moving elements, with arrows moving around the periphery of the dial.

The minutes are indicated by the leading blue arrow of the set of three moving elements, which follow the brand’s familiar figure eight pattern. The two tens-of-minute dials have satin-brushed and rhodium-plated finishing, and the numbers are engraved.

This new method of genera display is easier to understand at first glance compared to the original, which is best understood watching it in person or in a video. On the dial there are also four large mirror-polished screws, which secure the dial.

The GNS2 is powered by the new in-house manually-wouund Calibre 260Rh-2. The movement comprises of two parts, one dealing with energy generation and transmission, and the other to energy distribution and regulation. It beats at 18,000 VPH and has a power reserve of 50 hours.

Firstly, there is the basic movement which deals with the core functions. The second part is the one dedicated to GENUS’ hour and minute display complication.

The regulating organ is blued, and the movement features a mix of finishing including straight grain and mirror-polishing. The movement’s components are designed and hand-decorated by Sébastien Billières in conjunction with his sister Sarah.

The new GENUS GNS2 comes on a choice of alligator, saddle-finish calfskin or padded and stitched rubber strap on a grade 4 titanium buckle, with a folding clasp available on request. This launch edition comes in a limitation of eighteen pieces with an RRP of CHF 58,250/ EUR 61,360 (excluding taxes).
