It’s no secret that Chopard’s L.U.C. collection is our favourite of the brand’s offerings, and this year they celebrate twenty-five years of the L.U.C Quattro and the Quattro movement with an elegant new dress watch.
The Quattro Mark IV comes in a 39mm case (10.4mm thick) in either platinum or 18k ethical rose gold, with the new L.U.C ‘bassiné’ case that has a base that narrower than the domed, and a polished bezel. It also has a curved, fluted crown and welded lugs. For the platinum model, as is Chopard’s practice, there is a small, engraved bee between the bottom lugs.
First, a quick summary/ reminder. The manually-wound COSC-certified L.U.C Quattro movement has a total of 1.885m of four mainsprings are spread across two sets of two stacked barrels, giving a 9 day (216 hours) power reserve. It beats at 28,800 VPH with a constant-force mechanism. Over the quarter century of its existence, the Quattro has not remained static, and the L.U.C. Quattro Mk IV brings with it the new L.U.C 98.09-L. At 28.60mm (thickness of 3.75mm), it has shifted the power reserve display to the movement bridge.
The new L.U.C Quattro Mark IV has a frosted textured brass dial that is galvanised dark blue for the rose gold model, or a light blue for the platinum one (yes you can compare this blue to this one if you wish. Alongside the time there is a date indicator and a small seconds sub dial. The hands and hour markers are metal-matched.
Strap-wise, the platinum model comes on a brown alligator strap with platinum buckle, whereas the rose gold model has a grey alligator strap with 18k buckle. The Australian RRP for the L.U.C. Quattro Mark IV Platinum is $78,500 and for the rose gold model, $63,000.
