A. Lange & Söhne continues to impress with their ‘big watch’ of 2025 – meet the new Minute Repeater Perpetual with its new manually-wound movement.

Limited to fifty pieces, this combination of minute repeater and perpetual calendar comes in a 40.5mm (12.1mm thick) 950 platinum case and features an in-house made enamel dial. Its function are the time, calendar, moon phase, day/ night indicator, the Lange outsized date, and the minute repeater. The hands and markers are rhodium-plated 750 gold.

The four-part dial is white gold and filled with glossy black enamel. Each of the dials, main and sub, have a white gold border. At 6 o’clock is a small seconds and moon phase with 750 gold moons and over 100 hand-engraved stars. all of the calendar functions can be adjusted by way of a single corrector.

The repeater slide is on the left side of the case – activation leads to a low chime for the hours, a double tone for the quarter hours, and a high pitched tone for minutes elapsed since the last quarter hour – there are 720 unique sequences for every minute in a 12-hour cycle. The minute repeater’s gongs are hand-tuned. The striking mechanism has a pause elimination feature which skips the pause between the hour and minute strike when no double tone is required for the quarter hours i.e. the first fourteen minutes of any hour.

The chiming mechanism has a safety device which means that the minute repeater cannot be activated while the crown is pulled out. The patented hammer blocker means the hammers stay in their home position for a fraction of a second after the gongs have been struck i.e. the re-bounding hammers cannot bounce and strike the gongs again. The hammers are finished with black polish. The centrifugal governor is mounted in an overhung position, making it almost silent when operational, and rotates at over 2,000 revolutions per minute.

Powering it is the newly developed manually wound L122.2 beating at 21,600 VPH and power reserve of 72 hours. The balance cock is hand-engraved. The untreated German silver three-quarter plate is decorated with black-rhodiumed engravings and Glashütte ribbing.

The Minute Repeater Perpetual is a part of the Saxonia family with POA, but as per usual at this sort of multiple complication level, you will know if it is within your watch budget.
