NEW: NOMOS Glashütte for Doctors Without Borders

Watch partnerships and collaborations don’t, by and large, have a long lifespan, although there are obviously some outliers. One of these is that of NOMOS Glashütte and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)/ Doctors Without Borders, known as Ärzte ohne Grenzen in Germany.

Since 2012 NOMOS Glashütte has produced a series of watches for Ärzte ohne Grenzen, raising over 1.3 million Euros to date through the sale of over 11,000 NOMOS watches.

Now, it is the turn of the Ludwig neomatik to join in, with the new stainless-steel Ludwig neomatik für Ärzte ohne Grenzen in two sizes – 36.4mm and 38.5mm, each in a limitation of two hundred and fifty pieces. The monies raised – EUR 125,000 – will go to the German office of Ärzte ohne Grenzen.

On the white enamel dial is the classic red XII, with black markers and black oxidised hands. Below 6 o’clock you can find a discreet textual reference to the partnership – “Ärzte ohne Grenzen”

Flipping over to the back reveals a further such reference, with the engraving stating, in German, that it is a special Ludwig model for MSF, alongside a “1/250” reference to the limitation.

Through the open case back can be seen the automatic DUW 3001, which has a Glashütte three-quarter plate, rhodium-plated surfaces with Glashütte ribbing and NOMOS perlage, and stop-seconds. Beating at 21,600 VPH, it has a power reserve of 43 hours.

Both sizes of the NOMOS Glashütte for Doctors Without Borders/ Ärzte ohne Grenzen come on black Horween Shell Cordovan straps. The Australian RRP for the smaller size is $4,850 and the larger model is priced at $5,070.
