URWERK has launched the new UR-150 Scorpion, with a new rendition of their satellite hour complication. The naming of this new model is a reference to the design of the retrograde minutes hand, its snap-back trajectory described as a representation of a scorpion’s tail.
The UR-150 is available in two variations – Titan and Dark, in a limitation of fifty pieces each. The former has a case made from sand-blasted and shot-blasted titanium and steel, whereas the Dark variant’s case is sand-blasted and shot-blasted titanium and anthracite PVD-treated steel.

The case measures 52.32mm x 42.49mm with a thickness of 14.79mm and is water resistant to 50m, coming on a KISKA rubber strap. It has an arched profile, going from the case and crystal through to the strap.
The URWERK UR-150 Scorpion features a large open-worked hand that frames the relevant hour, with its tip curving over the minutes track. The familiar flying carousel with three hour satellites follows a route determined by a cam which is responsible for the sixty-minute cycle of the carousel.

Once sixty minutes (marked by a green ‘60’) have passed, the hour hand snaps back to zero for the next cycle. At the same time, the satellite hours spin on their axes and the retrograde hand frames the new hour. The retrograde minutes hand moves an a 240° arc, more than the usual 120°, and the hour satellites simultaneously rotates 270°. This retrograde increase and the power required to make the hand go that extra distance requires the use of a speed regulator on the flywheel.

The aluminium satellite hours are on a brass carousel, and the retrograde hand is also aluminium. Finishing includes circular graining, sand-blasting, shot-blasting, and circular satin finishing.

Powering the UR-150 Scorpion is the automatic Calibre UR-50.01 with a double turbine that regulates the rotor’s speed. It beats at 28,800 VPH and has a power reserve of 43 hours.

The new URWERK UR-150 Scorpion Titan has an RRP of CHF 88,000 (excluding taxes) and the Dark is priced at CHF 89,000 (excluding taxes).
