LVMH has announced the acquisition of Swiza, owner of L’Epée 1839. The Swiss clock and mechanical objet d’art maker (notably music boxes) had been acquired by Swiza in 2008.
A clockmaking company that, in its Swiza era, expanded its clientele and customer base through thoroughly modern offerings that highlight its skill not just in regulator clocks, tourbillons, perpetual calendars and most notably, long power reserves, in recent years it has become well known for its collaborative relationships with MB&F in particular, but also other brands such as Ulysse Nardin, its Creative Art Line, and a new sense of the unexpected and sometimes quirky, as they have expanded their customer base.
L’Epée 1839’s team now numbers some eighty people, and alongside any possible intra-group pieces, it will be interesting to see if the clockmaker itself also expands.
