You might recall last year’s launch of the Blancpain X Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms, consisting of a collection of watches around an ocean theme, with each piece is centred around either the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic and Antarctic oceans.
If had thought that these five models would be the totality of it, you would be wrong, with the announcement of the new ‘Ocean of Storms’. Dedicated to the Oceanus Procellarum, at approximately 4,000,000 km² it is the largest of the lunar seas and named ‘Oceanus’ due to this. Perhaps think of it as a relative of the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch.
This addition to the Blancpain X Swatch collection brings a new colour into the range, with a black case and crown are made from the same Bioceramic material. The dial has a black sun-brushed finish and a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock.

The hour and minute hands, hour markers, and 60-minute (diving) scale on the unidirectional bezel (also Bioceramic) all have Super-LumiNova®. As with the earlier models, the bezel insert has anti-scratchproof coating. The crystal is a biosourced material also treated with an anti-scratch coating. The case is 42.3mm (thickness of 14.4mm) with a Bioceramic crown and resistance of fifty Fathoms (91m/ 300ft).

‘Oceans of Storms’, like the watches in the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection, is powered by the automatic SISTEM51, which has 90 hours of power reserve. All watches in the collection feature a digital print of a nudibranch on the movement’s rotor – this time it’s the Okenia Luna in the spotlight.
Coming on a strap made from recycled fishing nets and with Bioceramic pin buckle and loops, the new Blancpain x Swatch ‘Ocean of Storms’ is now available in selected Swatch stores worldwide, with an Australian RRP of $655.
