Tudor has introduced light-dialled version of its Black Bay GMT – the Ref. 79830RB. It is ‘light’ not ‘white’, because the curved dial is opaline, with a matte white-grey silvery finish applied to the dial. It joins its black dial GMT brethren in the ever popular Black Bay family.
Waterproof to 200m, the Black Bay GMT’s 41mm-sized case is stainless steel with a combination of polished and satin finishing. It has a 24-hour graduated bi-directional rotating bezel with a matte dark blue and burgundy anodised aluminium disc (do we call it ‘Pepsi’?). This is obviously quite different to the black dial Black Bay GMT, whose rotating bezel is a matte brown and black. The crown is screw-down, with the Tudor rose in relief.

Alongside the hours, centre seconds hand and GMT function, there is an instantaneous date at 3 o’clock, and stop seconds when setting the time.
Inside is the COSC-certified automatic Calibre MT5652 which beats at 28,800 VPH and has a power reserve of 70 hours.

In fact the only differences between this and the existing GMT are the dial and bezel. It otherwise has the same specs and also the same options of coming on either a stainless steel bracelet with polished and satin finishing or my preference, a fabric strap. The prices are CHF 4,100 and CHF 3,800 respectively.
It’s a solid all-round tool watch and there is absolutely no reason that this new Black Bay model won’t do well. The Black Bay is popular. GMTs are popular. Pepsi bezels are popular.
