The original Laureato Light by Girard-Perregaux has now been joined by the new Laureato Absolute Light & Shade and the limited edition Laureato Absolute Light & Fire, both in a 44mm sized case made from metallised sapphire crystal with black PVD-treated titanium in the case of the former, and a new scratch-resistant transluscent polycrystalline material named YAG for the latter.
The new watches combine a sapphire crystal case with a skeletonised movement, with the mainplate of the Calibre GP01800-1143 octagonal-shaped, mirroring the bezel. The barrel and gold oscillating weights are open-worked. The bridges are NAC-treated and the movement features a mix of finishing types such as sand-blasting, traits-tirés, and circular satin finishing. The automatic movement beats at 28,800 VPH and has a power reserve of 54 hours.
Both the hour and minute hands are rhodium-plated and skeletonised, in keeping with the theme of the new models. The ring between the bezel and movement features the GP logo at 12 o’clock, and polished indices. The case construction is worth noting – it takes 170 hours to create, and the case and movement are assembled by a screw system. The crown is polished and sandblasted PVD-treated titanium and there are two integrated black PVD-treated titanium lugs which have satin-finished surfaces with polished angles.
Coming on a black rubber strap with a ‘fabric effect’ and a black PVD-treated ttanium buckle with micro adjustment system, the new Asolute Light & Shade has an RRP of CHF 95,000.
As mentioned, the Absolute Light & Fire is in a limited edition, of eighteen pieces. The limitation number and choice of red is deliberate – this model is to mark the Imminent Lunar New Year but, having no obvious lunar new year markings, it has more general appeal for fans of the colour red.
Apart from the difference the case and the red rather than black stitching on the rubber strap, everything else is the same as for the regular model. It also has an RRP of CHF 95,000.
