So it’s time for another green watch, but with added gold. This time, from Kari Voutilainen.
Kari Voutilainen’s 28SC, his first model featuring a centre seconds, won the men’s watch prize at the GPHG 2020. Now, he has followed it up with the new 28SC-SB, a limited edition variant which is of particular note because of its case, which also touches on a theme that continues to gather momentum.
The case, measuring 38.5mm with a thickness of 13.3mm, is made in-house in a new AISI 316L grade 4441 steel which is is 100% recycled and also, recyclable. The case has concave lugs and bezel.
Powering the watch is the Vingt-8 movement, with a centre seconds. It beats at 18,00 VPH and has a power reserve of 65 hours. The movement is notable for its large (13.60mm) balance wheel which, like the rest of the movement, shows off the famous polishing and finishing of Voutilainen watches.
The engine-turned in-house dial (made by Voutilianen’s Comblémine) is silver and classic Voutilainen – two colours with two types of guillochage. The applied numerals are gold, and the hands are made from gold and steel finished and polished by hand.
Coming on a brown leather strap with steel buckle, the new 28SC-SB is limited to twelve pieces. Given the green and gold, Australia and Brazil come to mind.
