The behemoth that is Baselworld, the watch industry’s largest fair shrunk a little in 2017, most noticeably with the elimination of the Palace, which was both an exhibiting space for a number of small and independent brands, and a meeting place for those who support and admire them.
Baselworld 2018 will have even more dramatic changes; half the exhibitors will be gone (leaving a total of 600-700, compared to the 1,300 in 2017), and as a consequence, there will be three fewer halls. It will also be two days shorter (six instead of eight days).
The SIHH, meanwhile, has been growing in the last couple of years, including brands that also exhibit at Baselworld. The most recent addition to the 2018 edition of the SIHH is Armin Strom, who will join other newcomers Ferdinand Berthoud, De Witt, Romain Gauthier, Hermès and èlègante by F.P. Journe in the ‘Carré des Horlogers’.
