NEW: Chronoswiss Delphis Sub Zero

Now for a new release which is more relevant for my hemisphere, with Chronoswiss’ Delphis
Sub Zero a new all-blue addition to the Delphis jumping hour family. The colour is not new to this model, but this goes beyond the dial to include a CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) -coated blue stainless steel case, and blue rubber strap.

The ‘Sub Zero’ of the name refers to a glacial influence in the colour choice of this 45mm sized (14.5mm thick) watch with water resistance of 100m.

The multi-level dial features a hand-guillochéd silver upper section with a retrograde minutes (indicated via a curved skeleton blued hand) and an aperture for the digital jumping hour. On the bottom part of the dial is a seconds sub dial at 6 o’clock which is blue CVD-coated hand guilloché, with ceramic markers and a silvered skeletonised hand. The silver and blue colour choices are to represent the ice and sky respectively.

Through the open case back can be seen the new in-house C.6004 automatic movement which beats at 28,800 VPH and has a power reserve of 55 hours. It features a sekeletonised rotor made of tungsten, Côtes de Genève, and ruthenium plating.

Coming on a blue rubber strap, the Chronoswiss Delphis Sub Zero is a limited edition of fifty pieces with an RRP of CHF 16,800.

There was a ‘then and now’ set of comparison photos of Swiss glaciers that went viral on the website previously known as Twitter yesterday, showing two photos taken at the same location, fifteen years apart.

The effects of climate change on Switzerland’s glaciers and the consequences of this not just on tourism and the livelihoods of local communities but also of Europe’s water supply. In the past two years Swiss glaciers have lost 10 per cent of their water volume — as much as melted in the three decades from 1960 to 1990.

Today, the Alps are warming about twice as fast as the global average, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
