In 2022 Zenith launched a new luxury sports watch in the form of the Defy Skyline, based on the original Defy, but emphatically of the 2020s in design and in its use of the updated El Primero high-frequency calibre with a 1/10th-second sub-dial. Since then the Defy Skyline collection family expanded from time-only to complications and skeletonised models with open-worked dials in stainless steel and black ceramic.
We’re in the ‘wrong’ hemisphere for some watch launches in Australia, and so it is with this one in the sense that its timing (and look) has been timed for (their) summertime.
Meet the inaugural Defy Skyline Skeleton in white ceramic, with a blue skeletonised movement that is in the shape of the Zenith star. With a mix of satin-brushed and polished finishing, the 41mm sized case with its signature 12-sided bezel has a water resistance of 100m.

At 6 o’clock, where one might expect a small second sub dial, there is a constant 1/10th of a second running indicator which completes one revolution every 10 seconds and is driven directly by the 5Hz escapement of the automatic El Primero 2620 SK movement. The movement features a silicon escape-wheel and lever, beats at 36,000 VPH and has a power reserve of 55 hours plus a stop-seconds. The Zenith star-shaped rotor has satin finishing.
The hour markers and hands are rhodium-plated, faceted, and have Super-LumiNova.
Coming on an interchangeable white ceramic bracelet with folding clasp, you get a second white rubber strap with starry sky pattern and a folding clasp. The new Zenith Defy Skyline Skeleton White Ceramic has an RRP of AUD 27,100.
