HANDS-ON: Pequignet Royale Tourbillon

Today is about French brand Pequignet’s first flying tourbillon. This new limited edition, called the Royale Tourbillon, is part of the Royale collection, hence its name, and is notable for all of its components being made within an 80km radius of the brand’s workshop in Morteau. It is also powered by their fourth in-house movement.

In a 44mm 5N rose gold case with a thickness of 11.70mm, it has a water resistance of 5m and a crown with an embossed fleur-de-lys logo.

But it’s all about the dial – a deep blue with a textured ‘ripple’ design that flows from the flying 60-second tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The hour markers are polished rose gold 5N, as are the faceted baton hour and minute hands and the opening of the tourbillon.

The flying tourbillon is mounted without any upper bridge and has a titanium balance wheel with gold screws that is concentric to the cage.

Powering the new Royale Tourbillon is Pequignet’s fourth in-house movement, based on the Calibre Royal®’s construction. Beating at 21,600 VPH, it has a power reserve of 88 hours thanks to a large barrel. Finishing includes bevelling, Côtes de Genève, circular graining, circling, qand sand-blasting.

Coming on a blue alligator strap with a polished 5N rose gold buckle with a fleur-de-lys logo, each of the twenty-four limited edition pieces will come in a lacquered wood box designed for this model. It will be available from September 2024 and has an RRP of EUR 65,000.
