Watch brand commemorative watches and collaborations mostly fall into familiar categories or if not, that don’t seem too surprising when they appear (obviously with the odd exception which can nonetheless be explained by the personal likes of those involved). NOMOS Glashütte have taken things in a completely unexpected direction, marking seventy-five years of German Basic Law (the constitution) with the limited edition 75 Jahre Grundgesetz version of its classic Ludwig model, made in conjunction with publisher Nomos Verlag, a leading academic publisher for law, social sciences and the humanities.

This special edition has six stainless steel versions of the Ludwig, with a limitation number of 75 pieces of each. The classic Ludwig dial is accompanied by a ‘§’ paragraph sign on the dial at 6 o’clock, in gold on the automatic models and in black on the hand-wound watches. Below it is the text reference to the nature of the model – “75 Jahre Grundgesetz”.

The six variants are the Ludwig 75 Jahre Grundgesetz, Ludwig 33 – 75 Jahre Grundgesetz, Ludwig 38 – 75 Jahre Grundgesetz, Ludwig neomatik – 75 Jahre Grundgesetz, Ludwig neomatik 39 – 75 Jahre Grundgesetz, and the largest one is the Ludwig neomatik 41 Datum.

Through the sapphire case backs can be seen the in-house NOMOS movements. The Ludwig 33 – 75 Jahre Grundgesetz, Ludwig – 75 Jahre Grundgesetz and Ludwig 38 – 75 Jahre Grundgesetz are all powered by the manually-wound Alpha calibre which has 43 hours of power reserve. The Ludwig neomatik – 75 Jahre Grundgesetz and Ludwig neomatik 39 – 75 Jahre Grundgesetz are both powered by the DUW 3001 which has 43 hours of power reserve and the largest model in this edition, the Ludwig neomatik 41 Datum – 75 Jahre Grundgesetz, has the DUW 6101 with 42 hours of power reserve

On the bezel around the sapphire case back is an engraving of, Article 1, paragraph 1 of the German Basic Law – “Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar”.
