NEW: IWC Portugieser Hand-Wound Tourbillon with Globe-Shaped Day and Night Indication

Amongst a slew of new Portugiesers launched by IWC at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024 were almost half a dozen in ‘Obsidian black’, of which two, the new Portugieser Perpetual Calendar in a new case, double ‘glass box’ sapphire and using Armor Gold®, was one. The other, also with this metal and dial combination, is the Portugieser Hand Wound Tourbillon Day & Night.

The new Armor Gold® models introduce what the brand tells us is a harder and more wear-resistant material thin 5N gold, with the 42.4mm sized (10,8mm thick) 18k gold case of this new ‘Port’ Hand-Wound Tourbillon combined with a polished obsidian lacquered dial, and gold-plated hands and markers.

Alongside the time and a 60-second hacking flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, tis new piece is characterised (dominated) but a day/ nigh indication in the shape of a globe, at 9 o’clock. Completing a full rotating every 24-hours, it has a dark side to indicate night and light to indicate day.

The day and night indication is integrated into the newly developed manually-wound Calibre 81925, which has gold-plated components and a skeletonised base plate. Beating at 28,800 VPH, it has a power reserve of 84 hours. The pallet lever and escape wheel are made of silicon and treated with Diamond Shell® technology to reduce friction and improves the flow of energy.
