Although more known for its lighter and brighter dials, darker colours (usually in the form of dark blue) have appeared in NOMOS watches over the years and are a part of various collection families. However, they are, by and large, the exception.
Now, NOMOS Glashütte brings black to its Orion neomatik collection, completely changing the Orion into an even more elegant dressy watch with a galvanised black dial. This new range consists of automatic watches in three variants – in 36.4mm, 38.5mm, and 40.5mm sized stainless steel cases with silver or gold accents on a slightly curved black galvanized dial.
They are the Orion neomatik new black (Reference 396), Orion neomatik 39 new black (Reference 346), and Orion neomatik 41 date new black (Reference 366). All three have water resistance of 50m.

Let’s start with the smallest one. The Orion neomatik new black is 36.4mm with a thickness of 8.5mm. The black dial has rhodium-plated hands and a mix of gold applied (for the hours) and stamped (for the minutes) markers.

Inside is the in-house Calibre DUW 3001 with a power reserve of 43 hours. It has rhodium-plated surfaces with Glashütte ribbing and NOMOS perlage, and blued screws.

Next up is the Orion neomatik 39 new black, whose case is 38.5mm, which a thickness of 8.7mm. Its black dial also features rhodium-plated hands, and a mix of applied rhodium markers for the hours, and stamped markers for the minutes. Like its smaller sibling, it is also powered by the DUW 3001.

The third and final new model in black is the Orion neomatic 41 date new black, which comes in a 40.5mm case with a thickness of 9.4mm. Its galvanised dial features gold hour, minute and seconds hands, along with a mix of rhodium-plated and stamped markers. Unlike the other two models, this one has a date function – the date window at 3 o’clock has gold numbers against a black background.

Behind the open case back is the in-house automatic DUW 6101, in which the date ring is placed around the movement, with a power reserve of 42 hours. It has a Glashütte three-quarter plate, blued screws, and rhodium-plated surfaces with Glashütte ribbing and NOMOS perlage.
All three new Orion neomatik new black models com on black Horween Shell Cordovan black remborde straps. The Australian RRPs are $5,150 (Reference 396), $5,420 (Reference 346) and $5,870 (Reference 366).
