NEW: Oris Father Time Limited Edition

We are still in the ‘summer of cricket’ season in Australia, but there has been a cricket-related watch release relating to Lord’s/ the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

Meet the new Oris Father Time, a limited edition bronze version of the Big Crown Pointer Date. What does Oris have to do with the MCC? Well it is a partner and the (first) Official Timekeeper of Lord’s.

‘Father Time’ is the name of a weathervane at their grounds. A depiction of him removing the bails from a wicket (Law 12(3) of the Laws of Cricket: “After the call of Time, the bails shall be removed from both wickets.”) at the end of the day’s play, he is 1.63m tall and the full weathervane, 1.98m in height. Sir Herbert Baker, the architect of Lord’s Second Grandstand, gave it to the MCC in 1926 as an ‘apology gift’.

This new Father Time comes in a 40mm-sized bronze case, with its fluted bezel and crown also in bronze. The case back is stainless steel and engraved with an image of the Father Time weathervane and the limitation number.

As mentioned, this piece is based on the Big Crown Pointer Date – the white dial features, alongside the hours and minutes, a central seconds hand and a central date hand with a red crescent-shaped tip. The numbers, indices, and hands all have Super-LumiNova®.

Behind this it is automatic Calibre 754. Based on the Sellita SW 200-1, it has a rotating red rotor, beats at 28,800 VPH, and has a power reserve of 38 hours.

In a limited edition of 1,926 pieces, the Oris Father Time comes on a bronze bracelet but also with a second (sustainably sourced) deer strap which has a bronze buckle. They are changed using the (provided) strap changing tool. The watch also comes in a special box decorated with the Father Time logo. If you want to read more about the weathervane and for what Sir Herbert Baker felt he had to apologise, go to the Lord’s page about Father Time. The RRP of Father Time is CHF 2,950.
