NEW: MING 29.01 Worldtimer

Another day and another new variant update. This time it’s from the small brand that may have started as collector-niche but which has managed to remain as popular now as when it was first launched.

Meet the new MING 29.01 Worldtimer, the successor to the 19.02 Worldtimer (2019). With a new shape and no bezel, the sapphire box crystal is also the bezel, merging into the titanium case. This new 29-series case is larger than the 19-series (40mm with a thickness of 11.9mm), and the sapphire design is intended to give it a feeling of greater size and openness.

The case and lugs are a mix of polished and matte finishing – the case’s side matte and the lugs, polished. The body of the case supports the upper portion of the ‘flying blade’ lugs, which have an interlocking groove that keys into the case back. This is secured with four Torx screws.

The upper dial is sapphire, with the cities, indices and hands appear are laser-etched and filled with HyCeram ceramic Super-LumiNova. The use of sapphire means that there is a floating effect over the metallic 24-hour disc which has blue to black gradient colouring. The disc is on a peripheral ball bearing track and rotatable.

Powering the 29.01 Worldtimer is the Schwarz-Etienne Cal. ASE 222 automatic movement. With a power reserve of 70 hours, it has a micro-rotor that has been modified for this new piece with a new bridge design, a fully skeletonised barrel, and DLC-coated plates and bridges. The rotor is tungsten and coloured to match the going train and balance. The micro rotor has a new mounting and ceramic ball bearings for increased winding efficiency.

With a water resistance of 50m, the new Ming 29.01 Worldtimer comes with two straps with a stainless steel buckle – one Jean Rousseau dark blue Alcantara and then another one which is the new owner’s choice. It also comes with a handmade leather travel pouch by Studio Koji Sato.

Limited to 100 pieces, the MING 29.01 Worldtimer watch has a retail price of CHF 19,500, with deliveries beginning March 2024.
