Founded by Christine Hutter fourteen years ago, the Mortiz Grossmann brand, which revived the watchmaker’s name for a new generation of watch folks, has marked the occasion with the limited edition Hamatic Vintage Cream.
The case is 41mm and in 18kt white gold, with a thickness of 11.3mm. The dial is solid silver, cream-coloured (a nod to historic pieces) and lacquered, with Roman numerals and a historic Moritz Grossmann logo (1875).
The logo, numerals and hand-made poiré-shaped hands are all hand-annealed to a violet colour, a trademark of the brand.

This colour continues onto the manually-wound in-house Calibre 106.0, visible through the case back. Beating at 21,600 VPH with a power reserve of three days, it has screws that have also been annealed to the same violet. The movement’s two-thirds plate and pillars are untreated German silver, with hand-engraving on both the plate and cantilevered balance cock. There is also the use of horizontal Glashütte ribbing, and double-band snailing on the mainspring barrel.

The movement has a stop seconds, and also incorporates the traditional 19th century automatic hammer mechanism which generates energy by means of a moving hammer rather than a rotor as per automatic movements. The bidirectional hammer swings back and forth, winding the movement.
Coming on a black hand-stitched alligator leather strap with an 18kt white gold buckle and limited to twenty-five pieces, the Hamatic Vintage Cream has an RRP of EUR 45,700.
