The vintage Porsche Chronographs have long been a popular, albeit niche, collectable, and there’s a new limited edition Porsche Design Chronograph to add into the mix, only this one is even less easy to obtain.
Meet the new 1-911 Dakar model, a limited edition of 2,500 pieces reserved for Porsche 911 Dakar and Porsche 911 Dakar Rallye Design owners.
Made in Porsche’s Timepiece Manufaktur in Solothurn, the new flyback chronographs are in a case made of titanium carbide, which each watch bearing the same limited edition number as the respective vehicle.

The case is 42.55 with a thickness of 15.5mm and water resistance of 100m. The dial is matte black with Porsche Dakar markings and Super-LumiNova on hands and indices. The ‘car nods’ on the dial are gold, blue, white, and red accents which reference to the car’s colours.
Through the open case back is the automatic COSC-certified Porsche Design Calibre WERK 01.240. Its rotor references the car’s rims (and is available in black or white) and the movement beats at 28,800 VPH and has a power reserve of 48 hours.

The watches come on perforated black leather straps which have backing made from Race-Tex in Shadegreen or Shark Blue.

Launched simultaneously with the premiere of their new Porsche 911 Dakar car, it has a price of USD14,500.
As for the car itself, the 911 Dakar will set you back USD222,000, with production limited to 2,500 cars (as you would have guessed already from the watch number limitation). The 911 Dakar is an off-road-capable version of the 911 and comes with a roof rack, AWD, AWD tyres, more ground clearance (50 mm higher than the standard 911), a lift system that can raise the car by a further 30mm at the front or rear, and various rallye mods.
