Laurent Ferrier have decided to go back almost a century, with a new Art Deco-inspired dial on their Square Micro-Rotor model.
It is not without justification to say that the cushion-shaped case is already, in and of itself, simpatico with this, as this style of case shape is most commonly associated with the 1930s, but for this new Retro, they’ve decided to take some broader styling cues and exchanged the brand’s usual preference for simple indices or Roman numerals with elaborate Arabic numerals, combined with a large hour circle, another feature that is not commonly associate with Laurent Ferrier.
This two new launch editions of the Square Micro-Rotor Retro come in two variants. The case, in stainless steel or in 18kt 5N red gold, measures 41m x 41mm with a thickness of 11mm. It has double sapphire crystals and it is water resistant to 30m.
The first matches a stainless steel case and features a silvery-white dial with an opaline centre and circular satin-brushed hour circle. The Arabic numerals, hour circle and logo decals are all charcoal grey.
The second variant pairs an 18k 5N red gold case with a charcoal grey central opaline section, surrounded by a circulate satin-brushed hour circle. The the numerals, hour circle, and markings are in matte white.
The classic Ferrier Assegai-shaped hands are done in 18kt white gold, either ruthenium-treated or painted white. The baton-style seconds hand is also in either ruthenium-treated or white-painted 18kt white gold.
Visible through the open case back is the automatic Laurent Ferrier in-house Calibre FBN 229.01, which beats at 21,600 VPH and has a power reserve of 72 hours. It features a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor and a silicon escapement featuring a double direct impulse on the balance.
The new Laurent Ferrier Square Micro-Rotor Retro comes on either a hand-sewn dark grey or khaki velvet alligator leather strap, with Alcantara lining and a pin buckle in stainless steel or 18kt red gold.
These new Square Micro-Rotor Retros will be a part of the permanent collection. The steel model is CHF 45,000 and the gold model at CHF 55,000 (both excluding taxes). To find your nearest authorised dealer, hit this link.
