NEW: BAUME Ocean Limited Edition

Today we have something new that continues in on the ocean/ sustainability theme that has been rippling through this year. It comes courtesy of Baume, the ‘offshoot’ brand that was integrated into a Baume & Mercier collection last May after two years on its own.

The BAUME Ocean Limited Edition is the first release in this new ‘home’. A collaboration with NGO Waste Free Oceans (WFO) and SEAQUAL® Initiative, it has been positioned by the brand has a reinforcement of their future intentions. Both WFO and SEAQUAL® Initiative work on a community level to help clean up oceans and through the process of recycling the recovered marine plastic into materials and products.

Available in two colours, blue or green, this new BAUME piece has a 42mm sized case (10.2mm thick) made of 80% recycled plastic from WFO that is reinforced with 20% glass fibres to increase its resistance. It is sheathed in either blue or green anodised aluminium, and has a crown at 12 o’clock – this final feature is characteristic of the BAUME models.

The layered dial itself is dark grey (anthracite, if you will) with sand-blasted and snailed finishing. Time-wise it is characterised by a central hour hand and there is a date window at 6 o’clock. Inside is the automatic Sellita SW-200 beating at 28,800 VPH and with a power reserve of 38 hours.

This may be made ‘from’ the ocean, but it is not a dive watch, with water resistance at 30m. It comes on an interchangeable RPET strap of SEAQUAL® yarn made from recycled marine plastic. It has blue or green stitching and is lined with natural cork. Naturally, it comes in a package made of recyclable cardboard, which is lined with recycled polyester felt.

The new BAUME OCEAN is priced at CHF 1,330. Baume & Mercier are donating 5% of its sales from this collection to WFO and SEAQUAL® Initiative.
