NEW : Breguet Classique Grand Feu Blue Enamel Ref. 5177

The blue theme we noted in January continues apace, with Breguet’s Classique Ref. 5177, one of the most ‘quintessentially Breguet’ of its watches, now released in Grand Feu Blue Enamel.

Previously available in white enamel with blued hands, this new model is the first in the collection to have a grand feu dial in blue. The colour choice is intended to reference the colour of the Breguet heat-blued hands. This means that the hands for this watch are no longer blue but rhodium-plated stainless steel, whilst the Arabic numerals, stars, diamonds, and fleur-de-lis on the chapter ring are in relief, and silvered.

The numerals in the trapezoidal date aperture at 3 o’clock are the same as those for the hour numerals, in a typeface used by Abraham-Louis Breguet on the No. 15 pocket watch from 1787. This is the style that apppears on all Breguet pieces with enamel dials. If there is one thing I would change about the watch it is the date window, but long time readers of Horologium will not be surprised by this.

Visible through the sapphire crystal case back is the automatic in-house Calibre 777Q, beating at 28,800VPH with a power reserve of fifty-five hours. The rotor is 18 carat white gold, decorated with a guilloché pattern done with a rose engine. Finishing includes chamfering, circular graining, brushing, and Côtes de Genève on bridges and plates.

The 18 carat white gold case is 38mm, with a fluted caseband, rounded lugs, and water resistant to 30m. It comes on a matching dark blue alligator strap with a white gold pin buckle.

The RRP for the new Classique Grand Feu Blue Enamel Ref. 5177 is 23,100 CHF.
