Currently consisting of thirty-three members, the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI), which promotes independent watch and clock making, is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2015. For thirty lucky people, commemorative wooden pens made by AHCI member Valerii Danevych, renowned for his astonishing timepieces made entirely of wood, including the movement. The proceeds of the sale of these will go to funding the preservation of the AHCI archives, including digitalisation.
During April there will be the launch of a documentary called ‘The Single Men – Masters of the Incredible and the Beautiful’, featuring watches and interviews with some AHCI members.
The trailer for this film was recently put online, and features a number watch industry notables as well as the independent watchmakers, including the indefatigable Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer, and author Michael Clerizo.
Unfortunately, the trailer’s settings mean that it is not permitted to have it embedded here, but click on this link to view it.
Just in case the title of the film makes you wonder, there is one woman candidate for membership of AHCI – Eva Leube, who currently lives here in Sydney.
