NEW: Chopard launches new updated L.U.C Lunar One Perpetual Calendar

Making its first appearance in 2005 but having had a number of (limited or other) variations and updates in the last two decades, at its launch the L.U.C Lunar One was Chopard’ s first combination of a perpetual calendar and moon phase, also featuring a large date.

Twenty years later and it’s time for another design update to bring it in line with modern tastes. The two new L.U.C Lunar One models have a slimmer case, measuring 40.5mm with a thickness of 11.6mm. In either 18k ethical white gold or rose gold, the case is concave, with a smaller diameter at the base than the domed, polished bezel.

The new case has a rounded notched crown and features vertically satin-brushed sides. The slightly curved sapphire crystal follows the lines of the bezel, creating a rounded profile. The lugs are individually crafted and welded to the case.

The two new L.U.C Lunar One models have either a deep blue or salmon-coloured guilloché dial with radiating lines. The Dauphine-fusée hands and the pointed hour markers are in matching white or rose gold. Around the dial’s minute track is a concentric circle. The two sub dials are also decorated with a circular pattern, and at the centre of the sub dial at 9 o’clock is a 24-hour day/ night indicator. The upper half (day) has a sunburst pattern and the night half has an engraved horizontal decoration.

On the moon phase, the Earth’s satellite rotates around the second’s axis. The indication displays the sky as seen from the northern hemisphere featuring the Big Dipper, and the southern hemisphere is represented by the Southern Cross.

The L.U.C Lunar One’s is powered by the COSC-certified automatic L.U.C 96.13-L. Featuring a solid gold micro-rotor and two stacked mainspring barrels, it beats at 28,800 VPH and has a power reserve of 65 hours. It is engraved with the L.U.C logo and adorned with fine guilloché.

Coming with two straps, one alligator and the other calf, which can be easily swapped using an easy strap changing system, the new Chopard L.U.C. Lunar One Perpetual Calendar has an Australian RRP of $141,000.
