NEW: Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Minute Repeater

So you’ve booked a Reverso tour at the Manufacture and want to splurge on an uber Reverso to mark the model’s birthday celebrations. Well Jaeger-LeCoultre have announced a new limited edition (ten pieces) Reverso Tribute Minute Repeater.

The Reverso Tribute Minute Repeater continues the path of the contemporary history of the model, which has seen its form used for a wide range of complications and so-called “grande complications”. The Reverso Répétition Minutes of 1994 was the brand’s (and the world’s) first rectangular minute repeater movement – the manually-wound Calibre 943. The Reverso Répétition Minutes was in red gold and made in a limited edition of 500 pieces.

On the occasion of Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrating 80 years of their Reverso, in 2011 they released the limited edition (ten pieces) Reverso Répétition Minutes à Rideau (Ref.2353520), which came with a 16-slat ‘Venetian blind’ dial cover (if you have never seen such blinds, and I have, they are quite fun to play with). This model used the then new Calibre 944, beating at 21,600 VPH with a power reserve of 35 hours, and which was highlighted on both dials of the watch. It was a highly decorative piece, using open-worked dials. There was also a special limited edition of the same watch dedicated to (you guessed it) Venice.

Now, in 2021, to mark 90 years of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso, the Tribute Minute Repeater uses an updated and revised Calibre 944, but skeletonisation again comes into play.

The front dial is again entirely open-worked to reveal the minute repeater mechanism and show off its operation when activated. There is a large bow-shaped bridge that sweeps from 11 o’clock to 7 o’clock. The faceted applique hour indices are cantilevered from the ‘chemin de fer’ minutes track. The bridge, hour markers, and gongs are gilded matched to the rose gold case.

The reverse dial is features vertical Côtes de Genève stripes over the mainplate ‘dial’. There are, again, gold hands and faceted applique hour indices, but overall this side is much less ‘gold’ in look than the main dial by virtue of the dominance of the movement. You can also see blued screws on this reverse dial side.

The new manually-wound Calibre 944 still beats at 21,600 VPH and has a power reserve of 35 hours. It features Jaeger-LeCoultre’s patented trebuchet hammers, silent regulator, and new gongs.

Size wise, the pink gold case measures 51.1 x 31mm with a thickness of 11.41mm. It’s not going to go anywhere near water, but water resistance is 30m. The newly designed slide to activate the minute repeater is on the side of the case.

Coming on a brown alligator leather strap with an 18kt rose gold pin buckle and in a limited edition of ten pieces, the price is POA.
