NEW : Frederique Constant Classic Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Manufacture Blue

You may have been thinking that there could not possibly be any more blue perpetual calendars this year, but you would have been wrong. We are sharing another one with you today not just to illustrate this small 2019 trend, but also because it is at quite a different (lower) price point to the ones we’ve previously covered, which means another option for those considering such a watch at present.

To celebrate the opening of a new building at Plan-les-Ouates in Geneva, Frederique Constant have launched two new limited edition Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar watches; one in stainless steel (limited to eighty-eight pieces), and one in rose gold (limited to thirty-three pieces).

With an additional 3,000 sq m, this new space is not just to benefit the growth of this brand, but also its Swiss-based sister group brands such as Alpina. Part of the Citizen Group, Chairman Mr Toshio Tokura was present for the opening ceremony.

In 2018, Frederique Constant launched a Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon Manufacture with a silver coloured dial (both standard dials and skeletonised ones), in stainless steel and rose gold. The Classic Tourbillon Manufacture was notable not just for its achievement for this brand, but because astonishingly, it was (and still is) priced at 19,495 EUR for this combination of complications. These 2019 limited editions are like the similarly limited skeleton models from last year, and with the same pricing, only with blue as the colour theme instead of silver.

Both of the new pieces feature a partially skeletonised dial with a dark blue outer ring and sub dials, with the same layout and functions as the 2018 model i.e. hours, minutes, seconds, date, day, month, leap year (as a part of the month sub dial at 12 o’clock), and a one minute tourbillon. They are also in the same 42mm sized case.

The tourbillon’s cage sits at 6 o’clock, with a seconds hand that rotates once every minute. Each cage is sequentially numbered on the top plate in the center of the cage with the limitation number, which also features on the case.

Inside is the same in-house automatic Calibre FC-975 as last year’s version, which beats at 28,800VPH and has a power reserve of thirty-eight hours. It features perlage and Côtes de Genève decoration.

Both of these new pieces come on a matching dark blue alligator leather strap with either a stainless steel or rose gold deployant.

The Classic Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Manufacture stainless steel has an RRP of 20,995 EUR/ 20,995 CHF, and the rose gold model has an RRP of 29,995 EUR/ 29,995 CHF.
