Perhaps better known for their men’s watches, Parmigiani Fleurier also has a number of women’s collections, including a chronograph collection called ‘Pershing 002’, which is also the name of a similar men’s collection.
At a size of 42mm, which probably puts them less in a women’s collection type of sizing and more in a unisex one, the collection is composed of four models, of which today’s watch is one.
In white gold case with a blue mother-of-pearl dial and baguette diamonds and sapphires set into the bezel, it utilises the automatic PF334 movement with a fifty hour power reserve. The chronograph function has a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, which doubles as a date indicator.
You will notice a small starfish at 3 o’clock. This is actually a seconds indicator, spinning its whimsical way in a circular fashion as the seconds pass. To continue the underwater theme, there is an octopus on the centre elapsed seconds hand. The dial itself is blue mother-of-pearl with snailed counters and luminous delta-shaped hands. The caseback shows an engraving of a Pershing boat as well as a number engraving. It comes on a white Hermès strap.
To whom will this appeal? Well apart from Parmigiani fans, to those women looking for something different brandwise, a larger watch, a mechanical movement, and a soupçon of whimsy as well as additional functionality via the chronograph.
